Fast Track is a separate, specialised area in the Emergency Department where patients will be seen with all trauma and mechanical related musculoskeletal injuries, requiring urgent assessment and treatment.
- Mon-Fri: 8am – 10pm
- Sat-Sun: 11am-7pm
Wounds, local infections, bites and abscesses will also be assessed and treated and appropriate follow up arranged.
Every patient will be triaged on arrival at the Emergency Department. A triage category will be allocated by the triage nurse on duty. Patients are assigned to the ED Fast Track based upon the level of medical care they require.
All dislocated joints and significant lacerations will be seen immediately on arrival in the Fast Track area.
Some joint reductions may be suitable for reduction under local anaesthetic in the Fast Track Area. Other patients may be moved to a dedicated monitoring bay for procedural sedation.
Depending on the needs of the Emergency Department other patients may be seen in Fast Track, including patients with suspected clots, head injuries and other clinical presentations deemed appropriate by the ED Consultant.
