Consultants

Professor John Ryan

Professor Ryan is a UCD clinical professor in Emergency Medicine. He is the current Clinical Lead for the Department. He trained in Emergency Medicine in Ireland, the UK and Australia. He was formerly a consultant and senior lecturer in Emergency Medicine in Brighton, UK. He is the Vice Dean for Advanced Specialty Training in Emergency Medicine (ASTEM) in Ireland and the Programme Director for specialty training in sports and exercise medicine. He has a track record and a particular interest in medical education and sport centre exercise medicine

Dr David Menzies

Dr Menzies is a graduate of the Irish Emergency Medicine Training programme. He is the HSE National Clinical Lead for Adult Retrieval services and also lectures at the UCD Centre for Emergency Medical Science on Pre Hospital Emergency care. 
 
He trained in Ireland, the U.K. and Australia and is a fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. 
 
He has a sub-specialty interests in education and Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine and is the Medical Director of CFR Ireland and Wicklow Rapid Response 

Dr John Cronin

Dr Cronin trained as an emergency physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia and on the Irish Emergency Medicine Training Program. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He has a strong interest in research and currently chairs the Audit and Research Committee. He also runs the registrar teaching programme for the department.

Dr Navin Ramphul

Dr Ramphul is a graduate of NUI Galway and of the emergency medicine training program in Ireland. He holds a MRCSI degree as well as a Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He is an ATLS and ACLS instructor and leads on the SHO emergency medicine training at St. Vincent’s.

Dr Nigel Salter

Dr Salter is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland as well as fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He is the Chair of the Resuscitation Committee at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. He is the Clinical Lead for our sister Emergency Department at Saint Michael’s Hospital, Dun Laoghaire.


 

Nursing

Sinéad Fahy – GP Liaison Nurse

Sinéad is our GP Liaison nurse. She graduated from St Vincent’s University Hospital in 2004 and subsequently completed the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing. Sinéad has worked in a number of Emergency Departments in Ireland and Australia, both in the public and private sectors. Having spent a number of years working as a CNM2, Sinéad has now returned to the Emergency Department as our GP Liaison nurse.

Clinical Facilitators

 Denise Kavanagh, Marianne Walsh, Joanne Doherty,

There are three clinical facilitators in St Vincent’s University Emergency department.

The Clinical facilitator plays a key role with induction, in service education and ongoing clinical skills education to nursing and allied health professionals.  They are also involved with specialist programmes such as the graduate diploma in emergency nursing and the continuous professional development in emergency nursing in partnership with UCD. 


 

Allied Health Professionals

Eimear Horan – Physiotherapist

Eimear is our Senior Physiotherapist. She graduated from University College Dublin in 2005 and has been working in the Emergency Department since 2012. The physiotherapy service in the ED includes acute respiratory care, early rehabilitation and musculoskeletal management. Eimear has a keen interest in cardiac and respiratory physiotherapy and also patient and manual handling. Eimear worked in the NHS (Belfast) before returning to the HSE. She is the physiotherapy representative on the Acute Medicine Programme, Health and Social Care Professionals implementation group.


 

ED Administration

Gaye Moffat

Ms Gaye Moffat is responsible for the Medical Administration services within the Emergency Department. Gaye has quite a varied background; working in the financial services industry both in London and Dublin. She also spent time working overseas with Concern Worldwide as a General Systems Manager in East Timor and IT officer in Cambodia prior to joining the ED Team at St. Vincent’s in 2004.
